Turning Trends into Opportunities (Without Losing Your Voice)

Sep 03, 2025

As artists, it can feel tricky to balance what’s trending with what feels true to us. Do we follow the crowd, or do we stay rooted in our own voice? The truth is, it doesn’t have to be one or the other. When used intentionally, trends can open doors while giving you fresh ways to showcase your unique style.

That’s exactly why I created the September Trend Report, a free resource packed with palettes, prompts, and repeat notes to help you design with confidence and stay aligned with your signature voice. 🌿

I’ll be honest, I wasn’t always a “trend follower.” But once I started looking at them strategically, everything shifted. Trends became less about chasing and more about choosing, borrowing just enough to stay relevant while still creating artwork that felt true to me.

Because here’s the secret: trends help buyers find you, but your voice is what makes them stay.

3 Ways to Use Trends Your Way

Borrow the structure, keep your signature
Pick one direction (like Preppy Heritage or Historic Botanicals) and filter it through your mark-making, textures, and storytelling. Keep your signature lines and movement—just swap the “container” (palette or motif family).

Translate palettes into your brand harmony
Start with the report’s colors, then shift them into your comfort zone. Maybe that means warming neutrals, softening contrasts, or aiming for a 60/30/10 balance (ground/accent/pop).

Edit designs or a collection to fit a trend
Recolor existing patterns with trending shades like butter yellow, mocha, navy, or cherry red. Or, add texture/stripes to simple designs to bring them in line with what’s current—without starting from scratch.

Ready to Design with Confidence?

You don’t have to reinvent your style to stay current, you just need a clear plan to filter trends through your own creative voice. And I’d love to gift you a starting point:
